A report produced by Verizon has found that from the start of a phishing campaign to its first successful victim takes only a worrying 82 seconds.
This is concerning, backed by further findings that 25% of employees who receive a phishing email will open it. Half of these open the emails within the hour of the campaign starting.
A phishing scam relies on a user opening the email, this usually allows the attackers to gain legitmate login credentials to use in another form on attack without having to use sophisticated methods. And with 11% of the user who have opened the email actually selecting the booby-trapped link there is a lot of credentials in the wrong hands.
