Contactless payment is now being accepted on all public transport services. Contactless payment is something that has been much anticipated for months and will now allow Londoners to use their bank card instead of their Oyster Card.

Contactless Payment works the same way as the Oyster Card but means commuters no longer have to top up their oyster card as the fares are charged to the card account being used.

The news comes after the announcement of Apple Pay, which uses a NFC chip similar to those used in Oyster and Contactless payment cards.

The removal of Oyster could potentially save £30m year by reducing paper tickets and cash handling.

However, customers should ensure that they are taking their card out of their wallet before making a payment to avoid being charged on the wrong card.
